Flea Market Finds Fridays! Episode 12
Anime, Retro Gaming, & More in Flea Market Finds Fridays!
Episode 12 of Flea Market Finds Fridays features quite a bit of nostalgia across the anime and video game categories. We also picked up a few items to send away to friends and/or toss in a giveaway box, and of course there are always the obligatory comic finds! Let’s jump right into it, my dears!
The Squishiest Little Keyblade Master Ever!
I don’t even know if one who wields a Keyblade is called a Keyblade Master. I may have just made that up. The point is that our friend Amy is a huge Kingdom Hearts fan, so we couldn’t resist grabbing her this awesome plush Sora when we happened across it during a flea market hunt! Unfortunately we’ve now ruined the surprise, but, meh… It’s not like she’s going to love it any less!
Jason happened across a Gollum Funko Pop loose in a pile during this particular flea market hunt. I already have this Pop, but it was quite cheap and in good condition, so we figured we’d grab it to possibly pass on to someone in the future.
A Flash from our Anime Past
Jason introduced me to a lot of anime I didn’t know existed when we were younger. I was all about Sailor Moon and Dragon Ball, but there was a ton more out there for me to discover! One of the shows Jason showed me was Tenchi Muyo, and of all the characters in the show my favorite was the boisterous alien, Ryoko. I was super-excited, then, when we found this sweet statue of her for a great price. The pose is awesome and I love the bright colors of her bold outfit and spiky hair. This find definitely makes me want to take a trip down memory lane and watch the show again!
Punishing Nostalgia of the Highest Order!
If you didn’t grow up in the era of the original Nintendo Entertainment System, believe me when I say you missed out. Partially because the NES era had some amazingly fun games, but also partly because this was an era of head-smashingly punishing games the likes of which we’ve rarely seen since. The Ninja Gaiden games fell under this category, and yet we have photographic proof of the night a somewhat drunken Jason managed to beat the first game. As a keepsake to remind Jason of this epic accomplishment, I grabbed the first and second Ninja Gaiden cartridges when I came across them at our flea market. They now hold a place of immense honor amongst our video game collection.
Trading Cards Never Go Out of Style
What? It’s true! The types may come and go, but trading cards in general just keep trucking on through the ages. Every now and then we grab a few random ones – and Adrianna loves collecting the Tim Hortons hockey cards each year. On this flea market hunt we grabbed a few packs of Ninja Turtles, Powerpuff Girls, and (humorously enough!) Tenchi Muyo trading cards. We may open them ourselves, or we may give them away. We haven’t decided yet, but they were so cheap we couldn’t pass them up.
Bargain Bin Comics!
This week’s comic haul started off with a few ‘Ghost’ comics from Darkhorse that simply looked too interesting to walk away from.
We also picked up a stack of Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z comics, which should come as no surprise to anyone who knows us. We were a little surprised by these issues which are, in fact, comics and not paperback manga.
Finally, Jason added some more old horror comics, Red Sonja’s, and Conan’s to his collection, filling up a few more holes in the lines, and snagging some more cool, interesting covers, which is always fun!
