Triple Threat Mail Call Unboxing!
THREADS, My Geek Box, & Viewer Mail Unboxing Awesomeness!
Sometimes you’ve just gotta catch up on the mail by plowing into everything at once! Jason tackled THREADS, My Geek Box, and a viewer mail box from River all in one go, and it was an explosion of greatness for sure.
THREADS (August 2019)
THREADS by Z-Box is a monthly subscription box that features a graphic t-shirt and a book or graphic novel. It’s only £10 per month, which is awesome, but you can also grab yourself half-off on your first box by clicking here!
NES “Zapper” Tee
I’m not always a fan of these blueprint-style shirts because they can tend to be very noisy. This particular one, however, has my heart. It’s the Nintendo “Zapper”! The absolutely iconic light gun peripheral has an important place in gaming history, so this is a very fun pop culture design. Many of you may actually be too young to know what this even is, but trust me: it was epic.
Star Trek – The Graphic Novels Continue
In August’s box THREADS sent along two more issues from the Star Trek Graphic Novel Collection. This time it’s “Hive” and “Spock: Reflections”. This has really been impressive, I have to say! Getting one hardcover graphic novel in a subscription box that is so affordable is awesome. Getting two in the same box is spectacular! Of course, it’s that much better if you happen to be a Star Trek fan, which Jason and I are, so this inclusion definitely gets four thumbs up!
My Geek Box (August 2019)
My Geek Box is a UK-based subscription box full of geeky goodies. It generally includes a t-shirt and a variety of collectibles across different fandoms. The box is £20 per month, but if you use coupon code TBASE10 on the UK site, or click this link for the US site, you’ll get half-off your first box!
New in a Magazine of His Own! AquaMan Tee
I feel like AquaMan doesn’t get enough love. So I rather enjoy it when the oceanic hero gets a bit of attention in boxes like these. This shirt design features a sweet, old-school comic cover (12 cents, you guys!) printed on grey instead of the oft-overused black. I love that they chose a cover that includes AquaLad too. And the Fire Trolls. Breathing fire. Underwater.
It makes totally perfect sense, you guys!
“I’m Pickle Rick!”
Rick and Morty is, by far, one of my favorite animated shows of all time. As far as adult-oriented animations, it’s probably at the top of the list. And the Pickle Rick episode? *chef kiss* Brilliant.
My only issue with collectible coins like this one featuring Pickle Rick, is that they’re difficult to figure out how to display. But you know what? I’ll figure something out. It’s Rick and Morty. It’s Pickle Rick. Awesome.
GITD Batman Dorbz from Funko
Okay, you guys…no one could possibly deny that Funko overdoes it a tad with their Batman license. Let’s just get that out of the way.
That said, how cute is this little glow-in-the-dark Batman Dorbz?! I love that he has cranky eyebrows even as he has the standard Dorbz smile, and the Batman mold for Dorbz is adorable, #SorryNotSorry. Plus, come on, he glows in the dark! I’ll always be a huge sucker for anything that glow in the dark.
8-Bit Jason Voorhees Dorbz from Funko
Gah! Look at him! LOOK AT HIM! He’s so bloody adorable!
Depending on your feelings surrounding Dorbz, you might be super-happy or super-annoyed that there were two of them in this particular box. That said, I can’t be your friend if you aren’t at least a little bit amused by this 8-bit repaint (based on the NES video game) of the Jason Voorhees Dorbz. It’s a “too-funny” figure to begin with, but with the repaint it’s just hysterically fun.
Viewer Mail from River:
Jason Voorhees Living Dead Doll from Mezco!
A more recent obsession of mine concerning collectibles has been Mezco’s Living Dead Dolls. Specifically, I love their take on horror movie icons. River knows this and is a wonderful, wonderful enabler.
If you want to be really technical about it, River sent this particular Living Dead Doll to Jason, since he’s the Jason Voorhees fanatic. But let’s be honest, you guys…it’s totally mine.
This adorable (!!!) Jason collectible is based on the very first version of the iconic killer (aside from the kid version glimpsed in the first film) with his flannel-and-coveralls outfit and sack-over-the-head to hide his grotesque appearance. As awesome as later versions of Jason are, it’s nice to see Mezco take on this less-used visual for the character.
Are you my mummy?
How many collectibles do you have that come with a fully-sculpted mold of the character’s dead mother’s head?
No, you know what? Don’t answer that.
This figure, though, he does in fact come with Pamela Voorhees’ dead, mummified-looking head. It’s a nice (if strange) little touch given her appearance in the movie, and it makes for some fun (if disturbing) pose possibilities.
Jason is an absolutely awesome addition to our Living Dead Dolls collection and I can’t thank River enough for sending him along! His little clothes and head-sack are perfect, his beat-up pick-ax is a great little accessory, and the Mrs Voorhees head is the frosting on the cake. Friday the 13th fans will absolutely love this little guy. Thank you so much River!
(He’s mine. Not Jason’s. *cough*)
Thrown all together, this was a pretty damn awesome unboxing video! Two subscription boxes with a great value packed in, and an absolutely epic gift from an awesome enabler.
