Mezco Toyz Toy Fair 2019 Agent Gomez & Blade!
Two Amazing New One:12 Figures Join the Collection! Say Hello to Agent Gomez & Blade!
Okay, I’ll admit it: by the time you’re reading this, Toy Fair 2019 has been long complete. But that doesn’t change the fact that Mezco‘s Press Kit – which they so awesomely sent our way to check out – was absolutely amazing! And you know what else? I’m still positively in love with Agent Gomez and Blade, so let’s take a look back at their absolute awesomeness, shall we? Yes. Yes we shall.
By Collectors, For Collectors
With a company motto like “By Collectors, For Collectors”, you have to get a warm, fuzzy feeling about Mezco. The first item in the Press bag was an orange-and-black lanyard featuring that motto. It also has the company logo and mascot, the creepy-wonderful ant, Gomez. As someone who regularly works jobs requiring a company ID card to be carried, I’m genuinely amused by this little item. I’m certain it was a big hit with Toy Fair goers as well.
Every major toy company (and some of the smaller ones too!) seems to delve into the small, vinyl figures market at one point or another. Mezco decided to promote their new line – Mez-itz – by including a blank slate vinyl in their Toy Fair press bag. This little figure shows what the base body style for the line will be, minus the individual paint jobs that will turn them into whichever characters Mezco decides to create.
Since the unboxing of our Press Kit, Mezco has put a number of DC-styled Mez-itz up for sale on their website, including a Poison Ivy one that I absolutely adore. She will be mine!
Enamel Pins & Dog Tag
Enamel pins are an awesome way to flesh out a goodie bag, am I right? Of course I am. And these two pins were excellent little surprises! First we have a golden pin featuring Gomez in all his ant-y glory. Then we have a very 90’s-esque Rumble Society pin, featuring a bright blue skull and lightning bolts. Both are very welcome additions to our pin board. Additionally, Mezco included a chain and dog tag, once again featuring the company logo. These fun little items would have made for a great little goodie bag all on their own!
Agent Gomez – the Mezco “Man” in Black!
But while the previous items were all very cool, fun, and appreciated, it’s time to get into the real show-stoppers of the Press Kit!
This, my friends, is Agent Gomez, one of the absolute coolest One:12 figures I have ever had the pleasure to lay eyes on:
Gomez, as mentioned earlier, is the angry-looking-ant that serves as Mezco’s logo and mascot. In a move that turned out absolutely delightfully, the company decided to give their beloved bug the One:12 treatment. They anthropomorphized him, gave him a wicked-cool suit, and dubbed him “Agent Gomez”. The result is incredibly cool and so much fun to play with! Personally, I think he looks like he came straight out of a “Men in Black” movie, and that just somehow makes him even more awesome to me.
Agent Gomez comes with lots of accessories and extra parts, just like any other One: 12 figure, including a pair of extra heads. The first, pictured above, is a bit angrier and more alien-esque than the original. The other, pictured below, is modeled after what an actual ant’s head looks like. My personal opinion is that the original head is the best, but it’s awesome to have a few different choices to work with.
One:12 figures are also known for their articulation, their multiple posing options, and the painstakingly well-designed fabric clothing. In these points Agent Gomez definitely does not disappoint. His suit fits him like a glove, and the jacket is removable if you’d like to pose him in just the shirt and tie. His articulation points are numerous and very mobile, so you can get him into tons of awesome poses. And he comes with tons of extra hands, items, and accessories to play with, including a boom-box that opens into a carrying case for his sniper rifle. He’s an incredibly photogenic collectible. I could have easily done an entire post just on him! For the sake of moving on, we’ll leave it here for now, but you can find more pictures of him on our Instagram account.
Marvel’s Blade One:12
Everything I’ve already mentioned above would have made for an incredible Press Kit from Mezco. A One:12 Agent Gomez with a bunch of fun extra items was definitely more than enough to make us happy. So imagine our surprise when it turned out that there was a second One:12 figure in the bag!
A gorgeous One:12 of Marvel’s vampire-hunting bad-ass, Blade, was definitely unexpected! And I have to be honest: as much as I adore Agent Gomez, this Blade rivals him for how absolutely wicked cool he is.
His clothing – some parts fabric, other parts faux-leather – fits him even more perfectly than Gomez’s suit, and has tons of belts, design aspects, and other details that you could stare at for ages. The faces on his four different head options are extremely well-molded, with great attention taken toward his iconic tattoos and facial hair.
This figure comes with so many accessories I can hardly count them. He has swords. He has guns. His guns have explosion efects. He has stakes that can fit in his leg-holster. He has multiple hands to hold everything with. And he has eight – no, seriously, eight – sets of sunglasses. Four in black, four in red, enough so that each of his head options can have one of each color. How wonderfully over-the-top is that?
Two of Blade’s head options are fairly calm-looking, but I personally love the two where he’s baring his teeth. Above is the bald-head option, growling a bit while we posed him with a nasty-looking piece of hardware. Below is my personal fav, the crew-cut option, shouting with his fangs out. For this shot I posed him with a shotgun in one hand and one of his swords in the other, because, come on. He’s Blade. He’s an absolute bad-ass, and don’t you forget it!
Amazing Toys Make Happy Geeks!
There’s no doubt about it: Mezco’s Toy Fair press kit was absolutely amazing! Not only a handful of awesome smaller goodies, but two – count ’em – two One:12 action figures! Blade and Agent Gomez are both incredible figures that have clearly been created with enormous attention to detail. Both of them would both look amazing in any collection. Not to mention the photo potential!
Okay, maybe not that photo, because that photo is fuzzy and out of focus. But also, yes that photo, because what that photo shows is two incredibly happy geeks. And that’s what companies like Mezco are all about: making geeks happy!
