Storm Toad & HACKS! Surprise Mail from Boss Fight!
Boss Fight Studio surprised us with three new Vitruvian HACKS and a Bucky O’Hare Storm Toad!
We’ve mentioned multiple times that we love Boss Fight Studio. They’re a fun, smaller toy company with great ideas. Their Vitruvian HACKS are some of my favorite articulated figures to play with. And if you didn’t know that Jason loves the Bucky O’Hare line, you clearly haven’t been paying attention. So imagine our joy when we got a surprise package from Boss Fight…a package that included three new HACKS and the Bucky line’s new Storm Toad!
H.A.C.K.S. Series 2 – Gharilia the Dragon Harvester
The first of the three H.A.C.K.S that Boss Fight sent is Gharilia, the Dragon Harvester. This one is just perfect for me because DRAGONS. Hell yeah.
Gharilia comes dressed in bits of armor that look like they’ve been crafted from dragon scales and skin. She also comes with a wide variety of accessories, not the least of which is a baby dragon, shown above. Look at him! Look at him! I love that he perches on top of her staff.
Here’s hoping those bits of dragon were donated…
She also comes with a few weapons, such as a large knife that looks to be dragon bone. The one that looks a bit like a golden feather? I’m not certain about that one. If anyone wants to hazard a guess as to what it is, please leave a comment! Until further notice I’m guessing at a piece of torn dragon wing being used for some magical purpose.
Gharilia comes packaged with her helmet on and the face plate down, but she comes with an alternate head that allows you to see her face (shown above). I personally much prefer the look of the full helm because it looks badass. But of course it’s always awesome to have the option.
She also comes with a neat little accessory that I feel really completes her look. It’s a small holster that holds a golden dragon egg. When combined with the bone blade and baby dragon by her side…honestly, how could you resist this?
H.A.C.K.S. Series 2 – Vandar the Wandering Warrior
Vandar the Wandering Warrior is a barbarian-style character, similar to characters like Conan. He wears leather and fur tied with ropes, and very little above the waist. He’s the character you’d expect to appear from the deepest wilds, looking to avenge his village from some murderous evil.
Bearded Men FTW!
Vandar comes packaged with a very shaggy, unshaven face. He has a thick beard and long, scraggly hair (shown above). It’s basically perfect for a wandering warrior. He does, however, come with an alternate style of head if you so choose to use it. This head, shown below, has a clean-shaven face, with half of his head bare, the hair flipped over to the other side. He also has two half-helms (one with horns), which can be worn with either head (hair has to be removed from the bearded version). Personally, I’m all about that beard.
The weapons Vandar comes with definitely suit his character. They’re all enormous, metal monstrosities. There’s a huge, double-bladed ax, a long-sword, and a nasty-looking spiked mace. Vandar is ready to do some damage, no doubt.
H.A.C.K.S. Series 2 – Gargoyle (Castle Faerie)
The third and final HACKS figure is by far my favorite. This evil-looking “castle faerie” is a gargoyle, creatures that I’ve always been fascinated by. When I first saw Boss Fight sharing photos of her on their social media I knew that I had to have her.
Modeled to look like – of course – a stone statue, she’s extremely devilish in appearance. She’s entirely naked, with a feminine figure, and claws for fingers and toes. The head she comes packaged with (shown above) has medusa-like hair, sharp features, red eyes, and vampire-like teeth. But the best part? The wings, without question. She comes packaged with wings that are pulled up behind her back, but also comes with an alternate set that spreads wide like a bat’s. I absolutely love the wings.
Stone Jaws & Claw-made Weapons
As with the other two figures, the Gargoyle does come with an alternate head, shown below. This one is more masculine and/or neanderthal-like. It has a thick, jutted out jaw, a thicker brow, and larger horns, one of which is broken.
She also comes with some awesome accessories of her own. She has a large stone club that almost looks like it was a piece torn from an ornate pillar or something of the like. That in itself is pretty cool, but she also has one of the coolest HACKS weapons I’ve seen yet. It’s an ax, which looks to have been cobbled from a shattered piece of a stained glass window. It’s the perfect weapon for a creature like a gargoyle, and looks nasty as well.
But there’s one more accessory, and it’s amusing as heck. The Gargoyle comes with…a mini-gargoyle! He’s a short, squat fellow, more akin to a gargoyle you might actually see on an old building. Given his size compared to the lady Gargoyle, he almost seems to be her pet. And that’s just ridiculously amusing to me.
Bucky O’Hare Line – Storm Toad
Finally, the crew of the Righteous Indignation has someone to battle! This Storm Toad figure is the first evildoer in Boss Fight’s Bucky O’Hare line. He may be a bad guy, but just as much love was put into creating him as the rest of the figures. His mold is awesome. Everything from the individually-carved teeth and gums to the rivets on his boots shows the attention to detail. Also, as with the others in the line, the paint job is wonderfully done. He has those awesome, bright colors that really make the characters pop. There’s the bright and bold greens, of course, but also the shiny golds of his suit’s details, and the fluorescent purples of his eye-shields and weapons.
That’s a right perdy smile ya got there.
Storm Toad comes packaged wearing his space helmet (above), but also comes with an army-style cap. Or you can leave both off and have him showing off his bald head and toad eyes. That’s three options right there, but you have three more because of Storm Toad’s extra head. He comes packaged with the mouth full of teeth shining at you. His alternate head’s mouth is mostly-closed on one side, giving him more of a grimace.
Fire at Will!
Of course, Storm Toad wouldn’t be a very formidable foe without any weapons. He comes with a pistol and a rifle, as well as a sickle, all in that lovely bright purple that looks just like the old, retro versions of the Storm Toad toys. Those wacky-bright colors are an awesome little touch for nostalgia-lovers who may have had the original toys as a kid.
The Storm Toad is an awesome addition to the Bucky O’Hare line, which was definitely in need of a bad guy. Honestly? You’re going to want a whole army of him for your collection
